Warehouse Packaging Supplies for Trafford Park: Pallet Wrap, Boxes and Tape

Warehouse packaging supplies for Trafford Park come down to a short list: pallet wrap, strong boxes, tape and the tools to apply them. Pack Solution keeps all of them in stock at Unit 2, 50 Derby Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester M8 8HF, which is about 3.7 miles from Trafford Park (M17) in a straight line. That puts the park well inside our 10 mile van zone, along with neighbouring Old Trafford (M16, about 2.9 miles), Stretford (M32, about 4.1 miles) and Eccles (M30, about 4.6 miles).

This guide is for warehouse managers, distribution teams and anyone running a packing bench on the park. It covers which products to stock, how much to keep on the shelf, and how to time orders so the van gets to you the same day. For the full delivery map and a postcode checker, see our local delivery page for Greater Manchester.

How fast can warehouse packaging supplies reach Trafford Park?

You have three ways to get stock onto the park, and the right one depends on how urgent the order is and how big it is.

The van is the fastest option for most warehouses. If the order is in by 12pm on a weekday, one of our three vans brings it the same day. An order placed at 12:30pm, or on a Friday afternoon, arrives the next working day. The vans do not run on Saturday, Sunday or bank holidays, so a Friday afternoon order lands on Monday.

A courier makes sense for small top-up orders that are not urgent. Courier orders placed by 2pm Monday to Friday leave our unit the same working day, and Royal Mail Tracked 48 costs nothing on any order. Express, DPD Next Day and DPD Saturday are paid options at checkout. Keep the two cut-offs apart in your head: 12pm is the van cut-off for same-day delivery, and 2pm is the courier dispatch cut-off.

Collection works well when someone is already heading across town. Click and collect is free, and orders are usually ready within 2 hours at Unit 2, 50 Derby Street.

Which pallet wrap suits your loads?

Pallet wrap in Trafford Park is the product warehouses get through fastest, and the choice comes down to four things: colour, width, thickness and core.

Colour. Clear pallet wrap is the default for most outgoing loads, because the driver and the receiving warehouse can read labels and barcodes through the film. Black pallet wrap is opaque. Use it for high-value goods, returns you would rather not show off in a yard, or anything confidential.

Width and length. Both colours are sold as individual pallet wrap rolls. Clear film comes in 400mm wide rolls of 120m, 200m and 250m, plus a 500mm x 250m roll. Black comes in 400mm x 120m, 400mm x 200m and 500mm x 250m. The wider 500mm roll covers more of the load on each pass, so tall pallets need fewer turns.

Thickness. The 120m rolls are 20 micron. The longer clear rolls and the 500mm black roll are 23 micron. Neither colour is sold as a separate heavy duty pallet wrap grade, so for heavy or awkward loads use the 23 micron rolls and add extra turns at the base, where the boxes meet the pallet.

Core. A standard core fits a dispenser. An extended core sticks out past the film, so you can hold the roll in your hands and walk round the pallet. In clear, the extended core roll is the 400mm x 250m. In black, it is the 400mm x 200m.

Roll Micron Core Good for
Clear 400mm x 120m (750g) 20 Standard Light loads, bundling, occasional use
Clear 400mm x 200m (1.5kg) 23 Standard Daily wrapping with a dispenser
Clear 400mm x 250m (1.5kg) 23 Extended Hand wrapping without a dispenser
Clear 500mm x 250m (1.75kg) 23 Standard Tall pallets, fewer passes
Black 400mm x 200m (1.4kg) 20 Extended Hand wrapping, contents hidden
Black 500mm x 250m (1.8kg) 23 Standard Heavier loads, contents hidden

Stretch wrap works because each layer clings to the one below, so you need no tape or heat. Start at the base, tie the film to a corner of the pallet, and wrap upwards with an overlap on each turn. Our guide to pallet wrap grades and gauges goes deeper into micron and stretch.

When should you switch to double wall cardboard boxes?

Single wall boxes are fine for light parcels, but warehouse work is different. Cartons get stacked on pallets, sit in racking and get handled by more than one carrier. That is where double wall cardboard boxes earn their place.

A double wall box has two layers of fluting, so the board is stiffer and the box resists crushing when other cartons sit on top. Use it for:

  • goods heavy enough to make a single wall box bow or split at the seams;
  • cartons that will sit at the bottom of a pallet stack;
  • fragile or high-value stock that needs a stiffer outer;
  • anything going into storage for weeks or months.

Our double wall cardboard boxes for Trafford Park warehouses run from 9 x 6 x 6" (229 x 152 x 152mm) up to 24 x 24 x 24" (610 x 610 x 610mm). They come flat, so a bundle takes little floor space until you build them, and the price per box drops as the quantity goes up.

What goes inside the carton matters as much as the carton itself. Large bubble wrap for warehouse packing has 25mm bubbles that cushion bulky or heavy items, and you can scrunch it into gaps so the contents cannot shift when the pallet is moved. It comes on 50m rolls in 300mm and 500mm widths. For a fuller look at cushioning, void fill and heavy cartons, our guide to protective packaging for manufacturers covers each option, and the rest of the range is in the protective packaging collection.

A carton that is properly filled also stacks better. Empty space at the top of a box lets the lid sag under the weight of the layer above, and that is where crush damage usually starts. Fill to the top, close the flaps flat, and the pallet will hold its shape when it is wrapped.

Tip for pallet stacks: keep box sizes consistent on each layer and put the heaviest cartons at the bottom. A neat, square stack wraps tighter and travels better than a mixed pile with overhangs.

Tape and tape guns for a busy packing line

Tape is a small cost per carton, but the wrong roll slows a packing line down. Short rolls mean constant changes, and noisy tape becomes a nuisance in a shared building.

Brown Packing Tape comes in packs of 6 rolls in five options. The standard 48mm x 66m roll suits most benches. The 48mm x 132m roll and the BigTape 48mm x 150m low noise roll need changing far less often. The Vibac 835 buff roll is another low noise, high tack option, and the Proloc 72mm x 66m is a wide tape for bigger cartons and heavier boxes.

Pair the tape with a gun. Our Pistol Grip Tape Gun Dispensers cut the tape with a built-in blade, so a packer can hold the box with one hand and seal it with the other. The HPG50B Pacplus and the Big Tape 2in1 Core are heavy duty models made for all-day use with 50mm tape. The PG50B is a plain 50mm gun, and the PG75B is the model for 75mm tape.

A sensible setup for a packing bench is one tape gun per packer, a spare gun in the cupboard, and a mix of 48mm rolls for everyday cartons with a few wide rolls for the heaviest boxes. The rest of our tape range sits in the tapes collection, and dispensers and knives are in warehouse equipment.

How much stock should a warehouse keep?

Running out of pallet wrap at 3pm on a busy day stops dispatch. Holding three months of boxes fills space you need for product. The answer sits in between, and same-day delivery from a supplier 3.7 miles away lets you hold less than you would with a distant one.

A simple way to set a reorder point for each item:

  1. Measure weekly use. Count how many rolls of wrap, boxes of each size and packs of tape you use in a normal week. Check two or three weeks to smooth out the odd busy day.
  2. Work out the gap before new stock arrives. With a van order placed by 12pm, that gap can be less than a working day. Allow a little more for Friday afternoons and bank holiday weekends, when the next van run is the following working day.
  3. Add a buffer. Keep at least a few days of extra stock for peaks, such as month end, seasonal rushes or a large customer order.
  4. Set the trigger. When stock falls to the gap plus the buffer, place the order. Writing the trigger number on the shelf label makes it easy for anyone on the team to spot.

Many products have volume pricing, so there is a balance to strike between a better price per pack and the space the stock takes up. The pallet wrap collection shows the volume prices on each roll.

Ordering bulk and pallet quantities by van

Larger warehouses on the park often buy in bulk: dozens of rolls of stretch wrap, hundreds of cartons, or a full pallet of mixed stock. Bulk and pallet orders go by van inside the 10 mile zone, the same as smaller orders, and the same 12pm cut-off applies for a same-day run.

For a large order, send us the product list, sizes and quantities, and tell us where on the park the goods need to go and any loading details. We will confirm whether it qualifies for free van delivery and the delivery day. If the order is big enough that it makes sense to plan it ahead, the guide to bulk and pallet packaging orders in Manchester explains how to put one together.

Large drops are easier for everyone when the site is ready for them. Let us know if there is a goods-in door, a time window when the dock is quiet, or a forklift to unload a pallet. Clear space near the door before the van is due, and have someone ready to check the delivery against the order so any query can be sorted the same day.

If a warehouse needs an order today and it is already past 12pm, the van will bring it on the next working day. Collection from Cheetham Hill is the other option, as orders are usually ready within 2 hours. The guide to same-day packaging delivery in Manchester covers every cut-off in one place.
