How wholesale packaging Manchester orders work
A bulk order follows the same steps as any van order, with a little more detail up front.
- Send your list. Give each product, size and quantity, plus your delivery postcode. For boxes, quote the internal size, for example 12 x 9 x 6".
- Get a price. We confirm the product prices, any volume tiers that apply, and whether your order qualifies for free van delivery.
- Confirm by 12pm. Once you agree the quote on a weekday morning, the order goes out the same day. After 12pm it goes on the next working day's run.
- Receive and check. Have someone on site to take the delivery and count it against the order.
Here is how that looks in practice. A fulfilment business in Trafford Park that runs low on 12 x 9 x 6" boxes on a Tuesday morning can send its list at 9am, agree the price and have the boxes on site that afternoon. A manufacturer in Oldham that wants a pallet of boxes, a case of tape and several rolls of film ready for Monday should confirm by 12pm on the Friday, because the vans do not run at weekends.
The van matters most for orders that are slow or awkward by courier. Hundreds of flat boxes, mixed cases of tape and film, and pallet boxes stacked to a height all travel better on a van coming direct from Cheetham Hill than split into many parcels.
If you are comparing packaging wholesale suppliers, the practical test is how fast stock can reach you when you run low. With stock and vans in the same unit, a morning order inside the zone arrives that day.
Pallet orders by van: Trafford Park, Salford, Oldham and Stockport
The zone is measured in a straight line from M8 8HF. It covers the industrial and commercial areas most bulk buyers work from:
- Trafford Park (M17), about 3.7 miles, and Old Trafford (M16), 2.9 miles.
- Salford and Salford Quays (M3, M5, M6, M50), about 1 to 2.5 miles, plus Eccles (M30) and Swinton (M27).
- Oldham (OL1) at 6.8 miles, Chadderton (OL9) at 5.1 miles and Rochdale (OL16) at 9.3 miles.
- Stockport (SK1) at 7.2 miles, Cheadle (SK8) at 8.2 miles and Hyde (SK14) at 8.3 miles.
- Bury (BL9) at 6.9 miles, Farnworth (BL4) at 7.4 miles and Bolton BL2 and BL3 at 8.9 to 9.1 miles.
- Manchester Airport (M90) at 9.2 miles, and Wythenshawe (M22), Sale (M33) and Altrincham (WA14) on the way.
We have local pages with more detail on pallet wrap in Trafford Park, bulk boxes in Oldham and packaging supplies in Bury. Our guides for Trafford Park warehouses and Oldham and Rochdale manufacturers look at the packaging those businesses use most.
Before a pallet delivery: tell us about any access limits when you send your list, such as a narrow yard, a height barrier or set goods-in hours. It helps the van crew plan the drop.
Trade accounts, VAT invoices and volume pricing
Three things matter to most business buyers, and all three are in place.
Volume pricing. Many products have tiered prices, so the cost per box, roll or pack drops as the quantity rises. The tiers are shown on each product page. For example, Clear Pallet Wrap is sold per roll with bulk pricing on larger orders, and Brown Packing Tape comes in packs of 6 rolls in five roll options.
Ex VAT pricing and VAT invoices. Prices on the site are shown ex VAT, with VAT added at checkout. VAT invoices are available, which makes life easier for your accounts team.
Trade accounts. If you reorder regularly, apply for a trade account. It suits businesses that buy wholesale packaging supplies every week or month and want the process to be simple.
For a wider view of trade buying, our wholesale packaging supplies trade buying guide covers how to compare suppliers and plan orders.
Van or courier for bulk orders: how they compare
Both routes work for bulk packaging, but they suit different situations.
| Own van | Courier | |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage | Within 10 miles of M8 8HF in a straight line | UK mainland |
| Cut-off | 12pm Mon to Fri for same day delivery | 2pm Mon to Fri for same day dispatch from the unit |
| Arrival | Same day, or next working day after 12pm | Depends on the service chosen |
| Cost | Free on qualifying orders; call or WhatsApp to check | Royal Mail Tracked 48 free on every order; Express, DPD Next Day and DPD Saturday are paid upgrades |
| Pallets | Yes, bulk and pallet orders go by van | Call first so pallet delivery can be planned |
| Weekends | No Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday runs | DPD Saturday available as a paid option |
Inside the zone, the van is nearly always the better choice for bulk packaging. A single delivery of boxes, tape and film arrives together, rather than as a stream of separate parcels.
Outside the zone: bulk orders by courier
Some Greater Manchester addresses fall outside the 10 miles. Bolton town centre (BL1) is about 10.5 miles from the unit, and Wigan, Warrington and Macclesfield are further away. Bulk orders to these places go by courier.
For case quantities, order online in the usual way. Royal Mail Tracked 48 is free on every order with no minimum, and courier orders placed by 2pm Monday to Friday leave the unit the same working day. For pallet quantities, call 0161 706 1246 before ordering so the delivery can be arranged properly. The Bolton page shows which Bolton postcodes are inside the van zone and which are not.
Planning a bulk order: quantities and storage
Buying in bulk only saves money if the stock fits and gets used. A few checks help.
Work from real usage. Count what you used over the last month by size and product, then multiply by the number of weeks you want to cover. Add a margin for peak periods.
Mind the space. Flat boxes are compact, but a full pallet of them still needs a clear floor area and a dry spot away from doors. Single Wall Cardboard Boxes arrive flat with a minimum of 5 per size, so mixing several sizes on one order is straightforward. Our guide to buying cardboard boxes in bulk explains how to work out quantities.
Keep mailers and boxes in balance. Many sellers switch soft goods into mailers to save postage and space. Grey Mailing Bags come in 16 sizes, packed in 100s, 50s or 25s by size, and store flat in their packs.
Plan around peak season. Demand for packaging rises across the North West before Christmas and during big sale events, and many businesses order at the same time. Placing your largest order of the year a few weeks before your own peak means the stock is on the shelf before the rush, and any changes can be made calmly. Spread very large orders over two or three deliveries if storage is tight.
Do not forget consumables. Tape, film and labels run out faster than boxes. Bulk packaging supplies such as tape and pallet wrap are worth ordering alongside every box delivery. Browse the full ranges of cardboard boxes, pallet wrap, packing tapes and mailing bags.
A single supplier for wholesale boxes and packaging also keeps the paperwork down: one quote, one delivery and one VAT invoice. Our packaging supplies Manchester guide gives an overview of the full range.
Choosing products for a bulk order
Getting the specification right before you buy hundreds of units saves money and returns. These are the main choices for each line.
Boxes. Single wall boxes suit light to medium goods and most e-commerce parcels. Double wall boxes have two layers of fluting, so choose them for heavy, fragile or high value goods and for anything that will be stacked high in storage. Many warehouses keep both: single wall for everyday orders and double wall for the heavier lines.
Best for heavy, fragile or stacked goods
Double Wall Cardboard Boxes
Two layers of fluting make a stiffer box that takes weight and stacks well.
- 9 x 6 x 6" up to 24 x 24 x 24"
- Sold per box, price falls as you buy more
- Supplied flat
From £0.59 ex VAT (£0.71 inc VAT)
Choose sizeView productPallet wrap. Clear film lets you read labels and barcodes through the wrap. The 400mm x 120m roll is 20 micron and the other clear rolls are 23 micron. A standard core fits a dispenser, while the extended core roll at 400mm x 250m is easier to hold when wrapping by hand. If loads need to be hidden, black film is available in 20 and 23 micron.
Tape. The standard 48mm x 66m roll suits most boxes. Longer rolls, 48mm x 132m and BigTape 48mm x 150m, need changing less often on a busy line, and BigTape and the Vibac 835 roll unwind more quietly, which helps on a shared floor. The Proloc 72mm roll covers wider seams on heavier cartons.
Mailers. Grey mailing bags from 4 x 6" to 34 x 42" cover small accessories up to bedding. Smaller sizes come in packs of 100 and larger ones in packs of 50 or 25, so check the pack size when you work out quantities.
Protection. For fragile lines, small bubble wrap has 10mm bubbles on 100m rolls in 300mm and 500mm widths, and is sold per roll.
Best for wrapping smaller fragile items
Small Bubble Wrap
10mm bubbles on 100m rolls that wrap closely round glass, ceramics and electronics.
- 10mm bubbles
- 100m rolls, 300mm or 500mm wide
- Sold per roll
From £9.00 ex VAT (£10.80 inc VAT)

Receiving a bulk delivery
A little preparation makes delivery day quicker.
- Clear the drop area and a route into your storage space.
- Have someone available to sign and count the delivery.
- Check each line against the order: product, size and quantity.
- Store boxes flat and dry, off the floor if you can.
- Rotate stock so older packs get used first.
If something is missing or damaged, let us know straight away with the order number and, ideally, a photo. It is much easier to sort out a short delivery on the day than a week later when the stock has been mixed in with existing boxes.
Wholesale packaging boxes keep well when stored flat and dry, so there is little risk in holding a few weeks of stock.
How to get a bulk quote
Send your postcode and a list with sizes and quantities. Call 0161 706 1246, WhatsApp +44 7466 559897 or email sales@packsolution.co.uk. You can also use the quote form on our Manchester local delivery page, which has a postcode checker to confirm you are inside the zone.
The more detail you give, the quicker the quote. Include the exact sizes, the pack or roll option for tape and film, the delivery address with postcode, any access notes for the site, and the day you need the stock. If you are not sure of a size, describe what you are packing and we can suggest one.
Confirm the quote by 12pm on a weekday and the van can deliver that day. For a full overview of the van zone and cut-off times, visit the local delivery hub.
