Removal Boxes and Packing Supplies for Removal Companies

Removal boxes take more abuse than almost any other carton. They are packed full, stacked high in a van, carried up stairs and often stored for weeks. For a removal firm or man-and-van business, the right removal boxes are double wall, bought in a handful of set sizes and kept in stock, so every job starts with the same kit.

Pack Solution supplies double wall boxes, large bubble wrap, pallet wrap, brown tape, warning labels and knives to removal companies across the UK. We do not stock removal blankets, wardrobe boxes or plastic packing crates, so you will need another source for those.

Why Double Wall Removal Boxes?

Double wall boxes have two layers of fluting where a single wall box has one, so they are stiffer, carry more weight and stack better. That makes them the usual choice for professional removals.

Removal packing boxes are packed, lifted, stacked, unloaded and often stored, sometimes all in one day. Removalists boxes have to survive that on every job, and customers judge a firm by how their belongings arrive.

Heavy duty removal boxes matter most at the bottom of a stack. A single wall box full of books is more likely to give way under a full stack on a long drive. Double wall board holds its shape, protects fragile goods and keeps the stack square in the van.

All of our cardboard removal boxes arrive flat packed, like most cardboard boxes for removals. That keeps them compact in the yard or the van until a crew builds them on site. Each box is sold individually, so you can order whichever mix of sizes suits your jobs, and the price per box falls as quantities rise.

For a side by side look at board strength, our guide to moving boxes, sizes and strength covers single and double wall in more detail.

Removal Box Sizes: Small to Extra Large

Keep heavy items in small boxes and light, bulky items in large ones, whatever the size of the home. A box that is too heavy to lift safely slows the job and is more likely to split.

Group Double wall sizes Good for Delivery and minimums
Small removal boxes 9 x 6 x 6", 10 x 10 x 10" Small, heavy items Minimum 5 boxes
File and office boxes 12 x 9 x 6", 12 x 9 x 9" An A4 sheet lies flat in the base, so they suit documents and boxed goods Minimum 5 boxes
Medium boxes 12 x 12 x 12", 14 x 14 x 14", 18 x 12 x 11", 18 x 18 x 18" Books, kitchenware, general house contents 14" and 18" cubes go on 2-day delivery
Large removal boxes 23 x 12 x 15", 24 x 18 x 12", 24 x 18 x 18" Bulky, light items such as bedding 2-day delivery only
Extra large removal boxes 24 x 24 x 24" The bulkiest light items Minimum 90 boxes

Many firms settle on three or four sizes rather than stocking all twelve. A workable set is a small box for books and heavy items, a medium cube for kitchenware and general contents, and a big box for bedding, cushions and soft toys. Big removal boxes are tempting for speed, but packed with the wrong things they become too heavy to carry.

Small removal boxes in the 9 x 6 x 6" to 12 x 9 x 9" range also work as postal boxes. If you post single items for customers, our guide to shoe box shipping shows how to pack them. For the bigger sizes, see our guide to large cardboard boxes and their uses.

Buying Packing Boxes for Removals in Bulk

Order by 2pm Monday to Friday for same-day dispatch. The largest box sizes travel on 2-day delivery, and 100+ boxes can go on a pallet.

Boxes for removals are bulky even when flat, so plan around the delivery rules and keep a job from running short:

  • Orders placed by 2pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same working day.
  • Royal Mail Tracked 48 is free on every order with no minimum, usually 2 to 3 working days after dispatch.
  • The double wall 14 x 14 x 14", 18 x 18 x 18", 23 x 12 x 15", 24 x 18 x 12" and 24 x 18 x 18" sizes go on 2-day delivery only.
  • Pallet orders of 100 or more boxes placed before 1pm can get next-day pallet delivery to UK mainland.
  • Scottish Highlands and Islands, the Isle of Wight and the Isles of Scilly usually take 2 to 4 working days, with no next-day service.

Good to know: If you need large removal boxes for a job later in the week, order them early. The 2-day rule on the biggest sizes means an order on the morning of the move will not arrive in time.

Buying a pallet at a time suits firms that run several moves a week. You hold a steady stock of flat boxes, pay less per box at higher quantities and avoid a last-minute order before every job. Our shipping policy sets out every delivery option.

Protecting Furniture and Fragile Items

Use large bubble wrap to cushion furniture and fragile pieces, and stretch film to hold doors and drawers shut and keep dust off.

Large Bubble Wrap has 25mm bubbles, which cushion bulky and heavy items. The 500mm x 50m roll suits chairs, table legs, mirrors and TVs, while the 300mm x 50m roll is easier to handle for lamps, vases, kitchen appliances and boxes of breakables. Carrying one of each covers most jobs. Scrunched up, it also fills gaps in large boxes so the contents cannot shift.

Stretch film goes on over the bubble wrap, or straight onto unpolished surfaces. Clear Pallet Wrap clings to itself, so it needs no tape and comes off with a knife. The 400mm x 120m roll at 20 micron weighs 750g and is light enough to keep in every van. For crews that wrap a lot of furniture by hand, the 400mm x 250m extended core roll lets you hold the roll by its core.

Wrap round chests of drawers to keep them closed, round cupboards to keep doors shut, and round sofa cushions to keep them clean. Clear film lets the customer see what is inside each bundle when it reaches the new house.

Tape, Labels and Knives

Every crew member needs a tape gun, labels to hand and their own knife. Small kit like this slows a job most when it is missing.

Brown Packing Tape

Brown tape matches brown cartons and comes in packs of 6 rolls. The 48mm x 66m roll is the everyday choice. The 48mm x 132m and BigTape 48mm x 150m rolls need changing less often, and BigTape and Vibac 835 Buff are both low noise. For heavy cartons, Proloc 72mm x 66m covers more of the seam in one pass. We also stock pistol grip tape guns for 50mm and 75mm tape, so match the gun to the width you buy.

Fragile and Caution Heavy Labels

Labels tell the crew and the customer how to treat each box at a glance. Fragile labels measure 89 x 32mm, with 1000 on a roll. Caution Heavy labels are larger at 148 x 50mm, with 500 on a roll, so they show up on big boxes. Put a label on the top and at least one side, so it can be seen however the box is stacked.

Warning Labels

What We Do Not Stock

We do not sell removal blankets, wardrobe boxes or plastic packing crates.

For the jobs those items do, here is what you can use from our range:

  • In place of blankets on furniture: large bubble wrap, held with stretch film.
  • For hanging clothes: fold them into the large 24 x 18 x 18" boxes, or buy wardrobe boxes elsewhere.
  • In place of crates for office moves: double wall 12 x 9 x 9" boxes, which take A4 files flat.

If you already own blankets and crates, our boxes and wrap cover the rest of the job and keep the regular reorder simple.

Planning Removals Supplies per Job

Plan stock from the survey: count rooms and large items, then work out boxes, wrap and tape for each.

  1. At the survey, note the number of rooms, the amount of books and kitchenware, and every large furniture item.
  2. Pick sizes for the job: small boxes for books, medium cubes for kitchens, large boxes for bedding.
  3. Add large bubble wrap for each mirror, TV and fragile piece of furniture.
  4. Allow stretch film for drawers, doors and cushions.
  5. Pack a tape gun and spare rolls, a roll each of Fragile and Caution Heavy labels, and a knife per person.
  6. Order large sizes at least two working days before the move.
  7. Keep a buffer of flat boxes in the van for the items customers forget to mention.

House removal boxes are what you reorder most, so track how many each move really uses. After a few months you will know your typical numbers for a one, two or three bedroom move, and you can reorder by the pallet with confidence. Home removal boxes that come back from a job in good shape can be flattened and reused on the next move.

Some firms keep removal boxes for sale to customers who want to pack themselves before moving day. Stocking the same house removal packing boxes you use on jobs keeps it simple, and customers who buy removal boxes from you arrive on moving day with cartons your crew can stack.

Stocking Up for Your Next Job

Every box size is in the boxes collection, with wrap in the protective packaging collection and tape in the tapes collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best removal boxes for a removal company?

Double wall cardboard boxes, because two layers of fluting make them stronger and better for stacking than single wall. Most firms stock a few sizes: 12 x 12 x 12" to 18 x 18 x 18" for books and kitchenware, and 24 x 18 x 12" or larger for bulky, light items such as bedding.

How quickly can I get large removal boxes delivered?

Orders placed by 2pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day. The double wall 14 x 14 x 14", 18 x 18 x 18", 23 x 12 x 15", 24 x 18 x 12" and 24 x 18 x 18" sizes go on 2-day delivery only. Pallet orders of 100+ boxes placed before 1pm can get next-day pallet delivery to UK mainland.

Do you sell extra large removal boxes?

Yes. The largest double wall size is 24 x 24 x 24" (610 x 610 x 610mm), with a minimum order of 90 boxes. The 24 x 18 x 18" and 24 x 18 x 12" sizes are also big, and suit bulky, light items. Keep heavy items in smaller boxes so they stay easy to lift.

Do you sell removal blankets, wardrobe boxes or packing crates?

No. We do not stock removal blankets, wardrobe boxes or plastic packing crates. For furniture, we sell Large Bubble Wrap with 25mm bubbles and Clear Pallet Wrap stretch film, which keeps drawers and doors shut and keeps dust off in storage.

What removals supplies does a crew need besides boxes?

Brown packing tape and a tape gun, large bubble wrap, stretch film, Fragile and Caution Heavy labels, and a utility knife each. Warning Labels come as Fragile 89 x 32mm with 1000 per roll and Caution Heavy 148 x 50mm with 500 per roll.

Can I buy removal boxes in small quantities?

Yes. Double wall boxes are sold per box with a minimum order of 5 for most sizes, so you can mix sizes for a single house move. The 24 x 24 x 24" size has a minimum of 90. The price per box falls as you order more.
