Brown paper Christmas wrapping paper is plain kraft paper used as gift wrap. It looks simple on its own, and with a bit of twine, ribbon or a rubber stamp it looks like a gift someone took time over. Pack Solution sells it on long rolls built for packing benches, which also makes it one of the easiest ways to wrap a lot of presents in December.
Our rolls are plain brown with no printed designs. They are packing paper first, so the same roll can wrap a gift, fill the gaps in a box and protect a product in the post.

Why Brown Christmas Wrapping Paper Works
Brown christmas wrapping paper is strong, takes decoration well and comes on rolls long enough to wrap every gift in a season.
Kraft paper is made to be tough, so it holds a crisp fold and resists tearing at the corners of a box. It takes pen, ink stamps and stickers, which means you can label gifts straight onto the paper. A neutral brown also goes with every ribbon colour, so one roll of brown wrapping paper suits red, green, gold or white trims.
Small businesses gain on cost as well. Kraft christmas wrapping paper on a long roll costs less per gift than buying decorated rolls a few metres at a time. Since the paper is plain, leftover lengths go straight back into ordinary packing work in January.
Choosing a Kraft Paper Roll
Choose the roll by the size of your typical gift and where you wrap: a wide standard roll for big presents, a boxed centre-feed roll for small items at a packing bench.
Kraft Paper Rolls come in three options. The standard roll is a large brown paper roll, 500mm wide and 200m long, in 90gsm paper. Both centre-feed rolls are 70gsm and sit in their own dispenser box, so the paper pulls from the middle of the roll and feeds out of the box as you work.
| Roll | Size | Weight | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard roll | 500mm x 200m | 90gsm | Large gifts, framed prints, boxed sets |
| Centre-feed roll in box | 375mm x 300m | 70gsm | Medium gifts, the longest roll |
| Centre-feed roll in box | 200mm x 250m | 70gsm | Small gifts, filling gaps in small boxes |
| Honeycomb paper | 500mm or 395mm x 250m | 80gsm | Cushioning gifts for posting |
The gsm figure is grams per square metre, so 90gsm paper is heavier than 70gsm. Heavier paper resists tears on sharp corners. Lighter paper folds more easily around small, awkward shapes.
Good to know: width limits the size of gift you can wrap in one sheet. The 500mm standard roll is the one to pick if you wrap shoe-box sized presents or larger, and it works as a large kraft paper roll for covering tables too.
How to Wrap a Gift in Brown Kraft Paper
Wrap a box with the paper running long enough to overlap by a few centimetres, fold the ends into neat triangles and tape the seams on the underside.
- Put the gift face down on the paper with the long side running along the roll.
- Pull enough paper to go round the box with a small overlap, then cut.
- Trim the ends so each one covers a little over half the box depth.
- Fold one long edge over the box, then the other, and tape the seam on the underside.
- At each end, push the sides in, fold the top flap down and the bottom flap up into a triangle.
- Tape the end flaps, then turn the gift over and add your decoration.
Folding the cut edge of the paper under before taping gives a cleaner seam. For a round or soft gift, put it in a small box first; brown kraft paper looks neatest on straight edges.
Clear Packing Tape keeps seams tidy because it is transparent. The 24mm x 66m roll is the narrow option for gift wrapping and small parcels. The 48mm rolls suit sealing the postal box the gift goes into afterwards.
Decorating Plain Brown Wrapping Paper
Plain brown wrapping paper is a blank surface, so the decoration does most of the work and can be as simple or as detailed as you like.
Natural twine or string tied in a cross gives a classic look. A wide ribbon in a single colour looks smarter. Rubber stamps in white or red ink add a pattern without printed paper, and a sprig of greenery or a dried orange slice tucked under the string finishes it off. You can also write the recipient's name straight on the paper in white or metallic pen, which saves a gift tag.
Kraft wrapping paper also suits a matching set. Wrap every gift for a customer or a family in the same paper and change only the ribbon colour per person. If you sell gift wrapping as an extra on your shop, plain paper with your own sticker gives a consistent finish across every order. Brown kraft wrapping paper and a branded sticker cost far less to keep in stock than printed paper in several designs.
Keep loose decoration light if the gift is going in the post. Dried fruit, greenery and bells can come loose in transit, so add them only to gifts handed over in person.
Posting Gifts Wrapped in Brown Paper
Gift wrap only dresses a present, so it still needs cushioning and a proper outer before it goes in the post.
For anything breakable, wrap the present, then cushion it. Honeycomb Paper Rolls are 80gsm paper that opens into a honeycomb pattern when stretched, and the cells cushion bottles, glass, cosmetics and gifts. The 395mm width suits bottles and jars, and 500mm suits wider gifts and homeware. Our guide to honeycomb paper vs bubble wrap compares the two.
Small, light gifts that will not break can go in a padded envelope. White Bubble Padded Envelopes have a bubble lining and a self-seal flap. EP1 (100 x 165mm) and EP2 (120 x 215mm) suit jewellery and small accessories, and EP4 (180 x 265mm) takes paperbacks and cosmetics.

Brown Paper Rolls for Wrapping at a Packing Bench
On a busy bench, a centre-feed roll in its dispenser box keeps the paper clean, in one place and ready to pull with one hand.
Brown paper rolls for wrapping orders work best when the roll sits within reach and you can tear or cut a length without moving it. The two centre-feed rolls do this from their boxes. The 375mm x 300m roll is the longest in the range, so it lasts through a busy month before you swap it. For a counter or gift shop, a brown wrapping paper roll on a holder near the till works the same way.
The same paper fills gaps inside boxes. Scrunch a length and push it into the spaces round a gift so nothing shifts. Using one kraft paper roll for wrap and void fill means one less product to reorder in peak. Our guide to kraft paper rolls for wrapping, void fill and moving goes into the other uses.
Some sellers add a clear bag for sweets or treats inside a paper-wrapped hamper. The guide to Christmas cellophane bags covers that side.
Offering Gift Wrap on Your Shop at Christmas
A gift wrap option works best when every wrapped order looks the same, takes a set time to pack and uses materials you already keep in stock.
Many small shops add gift wrapping as a checkout extra in December. Customers sending a present straight to a friend or relative often want it wrapped and ready to open, with no receipt inside. Plain brown paper makes this simple to run, because you hold one roll, one ribbon and one sticker design instead of a stack of patterned papers that run out at different times.
Write a short wrapping routine and pin it above the bench, so a temporary helper can wrap to the same standard as you:
- Check the order notes for a gift message and whether to leave out the receipt.
- Wrap the item in brown paper using the same folds every time.
- Tie the ribbon or twine in one agreed style and add your sticker.
- Write or print the gift message on a small card and tuck it under the ribbon.
- Cushion the wrapped gift and pack it in its postal box or envelope.
Time a few practice runs before the busy weeks start. If a wrapped order takes twice as long as a plain one, plan for that when you decide how many gift wrap orders you can accept on your busiest days.
Keep a few lengths of paper pre-cut to your most common gift sizes. On a long day that saves measuring each time, and the offcuts go straight into the void fill pile so very little paper is wasted.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is brown kraft paper good for Christmas wrapping?
Yes. Brown kraft paper is strong, folds crisply and takes string, ribbon, stamps and pen well. It works as gift wrap on its own or as an outer layer when posting a gift. Kraft Paper Rolls come as a 500mm x 200m standard roll at 90gsm or as 70gsm centre-feed rolls.
What size kraft paper roll do I need for wrapping presents?
For gifts of all sizes, the 500mm x 200m standard roll is the widest and heaviest at 90gsm. The 375mm x 300m centre-feed roll suits medium items, and the 200mm x 250m centre-feed roll suits small presents. Measure your largest common gift before choosing.
Is plain brown wrapping paper the same as packing paper?
Largely, yes. Plain brown wrapping paper and brown packing paper are both kraft paper. The difference is how you use it: neat folds and a bow for a gift, scrunched lengths for filling gaps in a box. The same roll can do both jobs.
Do you sell printed Christmas wrapping paper?
No. Pack Solution sells plain brown kraft paper on rolls, with no printed designs. Many sellers prefer it for gifts and decorate it with twine, ribbon, rubber stamps or stickers, which gives a festive look without buying patterned rolls.
Is 70gsm or 90gsm kraft paper better for gift wrap?
90gsm is the heavier paper, so it resists tears on corners and suits larger or heavier gifts. 70gsm is lighter and folds more easily round small items. The standard 500mm x 200m roll is 90gsm and both centre-feed rolls are 70gsm.
Can I post a gift wrapped only in brown paper?
Only for soft, light items. Brown paper alone gives little protection from knocks. For anything breakable, wrap the gift, cushion it with honeycomb paper and place it in a box. Small light gifts can go in a white bubble padded envelope, from EP1 (100 x 165mm) up.
