Cosmetic Packaging for Online Orders: Skincare, Makeup and Beauty

Good cosmetic packaging for online orders keeps liquids sealed, stops compacts cracking and gets a parcel to the door looking clean. Most beauty orders are small, light and easy to damage, so the packing matters as much as the product inside. Pack Solution supplies the postal layer: clear bags, bubble pouches, padded envelopes, crash lock boxes, air cushion film and mailing bags.

We do not sell primary packaging. There are no jars, bottles, tubes, pumps or printed cosmetic boxes in the range, so your product arrives in your own containers and we provide what protects them in the post.

Packaging of Cosmetics: Matching the Item to the Pack

The right packaging of cosmetics depends on what can go wrong with each item: liquids leak, powders crack, glass breaks and soft goods only need to stay clean and dry.

Item Main risk Inner layer Outer for the post
Serums, toners, oils Leaks and broken glass Transparent OPP Bag, then a BP3 Bubble Pouch (180 x 230mm) Padded envelope for one bottle, Crash Lock Box for several
Creams in jars Lids loosening, dented jars Clear bag, then a BP2 (130 x 180mm) or BP3 pouch EP4 D/1 padded envelope (180 x 265mm) or CL-A box
Compacts and palettes Cracked powder, bent cases Bubble Pouch sized to the palette Crash Lock Box CL-C (180 x 100 x 50mm) or CL-D
Lipsticks and samples Lost in a big parcel BP1 (100 x 135mm) pouch EP3 C/0 padded envelope (150 x 215mm)
Gift sets and bundles Items knocking together One pouch per item Crash Lock Box with Air Cushion void fill
Makeup bags, headbands Dirt and rain None needed Hot Pink Mailing Bag 9 x 12" (230 x 300mm)

Most orders need two layers: one that seals or cushions the product, and one that carries it through the post. Glass and liquids need all three, with a bag, a cushion and a firm outer.

Good to know: Pack Solution sells protective and postal packaging only. Rules on what can go in the post, such as limits on flammable items like some perfumes and nail varnish, come from Royal Mail and your courier, so check with them before you send those products.

Skincare Packaging for Bottles and Liquids

For skincare packaging that stops leaks, seal the lid, bag the bottle, cushion it and fill the box so nothing moves.

Start with the cap. Tighten it and run a strip of clear tape over the lid and down the sides, so it cannot unscrew if the parcel is dropped or squeezed. Pumps and droppers loosen more easily than screw caps, so check those twice.

Next, seal the bottle in a clear bag. Transparent OPP Bags are glossy polypropylene, so the customer can see the product as soon as the parcel opens. If a small leak does happen, the bag holds it and the rest of the order stays clean. The smallest size is 6.5 x 9" (165 x 230mm), which is bigger than most bottles, so fold the bag over and tape it down.

  • 10 sizes, 6.5 x 9" (165 x 230mm) to 18 x 22" (458 x 560mm)
  • High clarity OPP film

Then cushion it. Bubble Pouches are open-ended bags made from bubble wrap. The product page lists BP3 (180 x 230mm) for bottles and BP4 (230 x 280mm) for boxed cosmetics. Slide the bagged bottle in and fold the open end over.

A single bottle can then go in a padded envelope. Two or more bottles, or anything in glass, travel better in a box, where they stand upright and can be packed tight. Our guide to OPP bags vs clear polythene bags covers the clear bag choice in more detail.

Makeup Packaging for Compacts and Palettes

Pressed powder, eyeshadow palettes and compacts crack when they bend or take a sharp knock, so makeup packaging for these items needs a firm outer.

A padded envelope protects against scuffs but it still bends. For a light compact that fits snugly, that is often fine. For a palette with a mirror, or a powder that is already fragile, choose a box. Crash Lock Boxes have an automatic base that locks as you open the box, so you only tape the top.

The long, shallow CL-C (180 x 100 x 50mm) suits a slim palette or a few tubes. CL-D (220 x 111 x 78mm) gives room for a palette plus a brush or two. Wrap each item in its own bubble pouch so the pieces do not rub against each other.

Plain brown crash lock boxes also work as cosmetic box packaging for small brands. They have a clean, retail-ready shape, and a sticker or stamp on the lid adds your name without the cost of printed boxes. Customers who reuse a box for storage get a tidy one.

Small Beauty Packaging for Lipsticks and Samples

Lipsticks, balms, mascara and samples are small and light, so a bubble pouch inside a padded envelope protects them without the bulk of a box.

White Bubble Padded Envelopes have a bubble lining and a self-seal strip, so you can pack and seal in seconds. The product page names EP3 C/0 (150 x 215mm) and EP4 D/1 (180 x 265mm) for cosmetics. EP1 A/000 (100 x 165mm) suits a single sample or balm.

For anything in glass, add a BP1 (100 x 135mm) or BP2 (130 x 180mm) pouch inside the envelope. It adds very little thickness and gives a second layer of cushion where a lipstick case or mascara tube could crack.

A padded envelope is also the lightest outer here, which helps keep postage costs down on low-value beauty packaging orders. For a side-by-side look at both outers, read padded envelopes vs postal boxes.

Cosmetic Boxes for Multi-Item Orders

When an order holds three or more products, a crash lock box with void fill keeps everything still and stops glass touching glass.

Choose the box by the total size of the order once each item is in its pouch. Crash Lock Boxes come in ten sizes from CL-A to CL-K, and CL-E (252 x 136 x 88mm) or CL-F (290 x 208 x 95mm) take most skincare bundles. Stand bottles upright, put heavy items at the bottom and lighter ones on top.

Then fill every gap. Air Cushion Film Rolls come flat on 300m rolls and need an air cushion machine to inflate them. Air Pillow film makes 100 x 200mm pillows for filling gaps. Air Cushion film is 400 x 330mm with 7 bubbles per row, for wrapping a product. Because the film stays flat until you inflate it, it takes up little room on a busy bench.

Air Cushion Film Rolls

Flat film that an air cushion machine inflates into pillows or cushion wrap as you pack.

  • Air Pillow film makes 100 x 200mm pillows
  • Air Cushion film is 400 x 330mm, 7 bubbles per row
  • 300m rolls, needs an air cushion machine

If you post only a few boxes a week, an air cushion machine may be more than you need. Spare bubble pouches or scrunched packing paper also fill small gaps well. The test is the same either way: close the lid, shake the box gently and listen. Any rattle means more fill.

Mailing Bags for Soft Beauty Accessories

Items that cannot break, such as makeup bags, headbands, scrunchies and cotton pads, only need a light, waterproof outer.

Hot Pink Mailing Bags are opaque polythene, so no one can see what is inside, and the tamper evident self-seal strip shows if a bag has been opened. The 9 x 12" (230 x 300mm) size suits makeup bags and hair accessories. The 10 x 14" (250 x 350mm) size is listed for boxed skincare that is already well protected in its own carton.

Best for makeup bags and soft beauty accessories

Hot Pink Mailing Bags

Opaque hot pink polythene bags with a self-seal strip, so contents stay private.

  • Five sizes, 9 x 12" (230 x 300mm) to 17 x 22" (430 x 560mm)
  • Self-seal strip with 50mm lip
  • Packs of 100

From £4.50 ex VAT (£5.40 inc VAT)

A bright bag also stands out on a doorstep, which suits a beauty brand that wants parcels to be recognised. Keep glass, liquids and palettes out of mailing bags unless they are already boxed and cushioned, because a polythene bag gives no protection against crushing.

How to Pack a Skincare Order

Pack every skincare order in the same order: seal, bag, cushion, box and fill.

  1. Tighten each cap and tape over the lid.
  2. Seal each bottle or jar in a clear bag.
  3. Slide each item into its own bubble pouch.
  4. Choose the smallest outer the order fits with room for padding.
  5. Stand bottles upright and put heavy items at the bottom.
  6. Fill the gaps with air pillows or spare pouches until nothing moves.
  7. Seal the top, add the label to a flat area and check the parcel weight.

Keeping a fixed set of cosmetic packaging supplies on the bench makes this quick. One clear bag size, two pouch sizes, one padded envelope and two box sizes cover nearly every order a small beauty shop sends. Sellers growing past a few orders a day can compare set-ups in our guide to ecommerce packaging by business size. If you also sell jewellery, the same layers apply, and jewellery packaging for posting covers the smaller pieces.

Cosmetic Packaging Checklist

  • Tape over every lid, pump and dropper.
  • Bag each liquid separately in a clear bag.
  • Give each item its own bubble pouch.
  • Use a box for glass, palettes and mirrors.
  • Stand bottles upright where you can.
  • Fill every gap so nothing rattles.
  • Keep soft accessories in an opaque mailing bag.
  • Check with your carrier before posting perfume or nail varnish.
  • Keep spare bags and pouches for replacement orders.

Stocking Your Cosmetic Packaging Supplies

A small beauty business can cover most orders with clear bags, two bubble pouch sizes, one padded envelope size and a couple of crash lock box sizes. Add air cushion film once your volume justifies a machine, and mailing bags if you sell soft accessories. Every size mentioned here is in the boxes, protection and bags collections, so your skincare packaging supplies can come in one order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best cosmetic packaging for posting skincare?

Tighten the lid, seal the bottle in a clear bag, slide it into a bubble pouch, then post it in a padded envelope or a small box. For a single bottle, a BP3 Bubble Pouch (180 x 230mm) inside a White Bubble Padded Envelope works well. For several bottles, use a crash lock box with void fill.

Do you sell cosmetic boxes, jars or bottles?

No. Pack Solution sells postal packaging, so there are no printed cosmetic boxes, jars, tubes, pumps or bottles in the range. Your own product packaging goes inside our clear bags, bubble pouches, padded envelopes and plain cardboard boxes, which protect it on the way to your customer.

Which crash lock box suits makeup box packaging?

Crash Lock Boxes CL-A (100 x 100 x 70mm) suit a single compact, lipstick or sample. CL-C (180 x 100 x 50mm) is long and narrow, so it fits tubes. For a palette with two or three extras, go up to CL-D (220 x 111 x 78mm) or CL-E (252 x 136 x 88mm) and fill the gaps.

How do I stop liquids leaking in the post?

Tighten each cap, then add a strip of tape across the lid so it cannot turn. Seal the bottle in a clear bag so any leak stays in the bag. Pack it upright where you can, cushion it with a bubble pouch and fill the space around it so it cannot slide about.

What skincare packaging supplies does a small seller need?

Clear bags for bottles, one or two bubble pouch sizes, a padded envelope size for single items and a small box size for bigger orders. That set covers most first orders. Add an opaque mailing bag if you also sell soft items like makeup bags or headbands.

Can I post makeup palettes in a padded envelope?

Yes, if the palette is light and you pack it so it cannot bend. Put it in a clear bag, then a bubble pouch, then an EP4 D/1 padded envelope (180 x 265mm) or bigger. A palette with a glass mirror travels better in a small cardboard box because the box stops it flexing.
