Cheap bubble wrap comes down to three numbers: what each metre of wrap costs you, how many metres go round a typical item, and what you pay to get the rolls to your door. A low price on a single roll means little if the roll is short, the delivery charge is high or you only ever buy one at a time. This guide shows how to work out your cost per metre and per parcel, how many rolls to put in one order, and where volume pricing, free delivery and a trade account make a difference.
We sell bubble wrap from our warehouse at Unit 2, 50 Derby Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester M8 8HF, so the examples below use our own rolls. Prices on our site are shown ex VAT, and VAT is added at checkout.

Choose sizeView productHow do you work out the real cost of cheap bubble wrap?
Start with cost per metre. Take the price of one roll ex VAT at the quantity you plan to buy, and divide it by the length of the roll. Our small bubble wrap and Jiffy rolls are 100m long, our large bubble wrap rolls are 50m long, and our honeycomb paper rolls are 250m long. Two rolls can look similar on price and still differ a lot per metre, because one may hold twice the length of the other.
If you use both widths, go one step further and work out the area. Multiply the width by the length to get square metres per roll, then divide the price by that figure. This lets you compare a narrow roll with a wide one on equal terms.
| Roll | Bubble or paper | Width x length | Area per roll |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small bubble wrap | 10mm bubbles | 300mm x 100m | 30 square metres |
| Small bubble wrap | 10mm bubbles | 500mm x 100m | 50 square metres |
| Jiffy Mono Bubbles | 10mm bubbles | 300mm or 500mm x 100m | 30 or 50 square metres |
| Large bubble wrap | 25mm bubbles | 300mm x 50m | 15 square metres |
| Large bubble wrap | 25mm bubbles | 500mm x 50m | 25 square metres |
| Honeycomb paper | 80gsm paper | 395mm or 500mm x 250m | About 99 or 125 square metres |
Cost per metre is only half the sum. The number that matters to a business is cost per parcel. To find it, wrap ten of your most common items the way you normally would, measure the total length of wrap you used and divide by ten. That gives you metres per item. Multiply metres per item by your cost per metre and you have the wrap cost of one parcel.
Here is a worked example. Say a mug takes about 0.5m of 500mm small bubble wrap to cover it with an overlap. A 100m roll then wraps about 200 mugs, so the wrap cost per mug is the roll price divided by 200. If you trim that to 0.4m per mug by choosing a better width, the same roll wraps about 250 mugs, and the cost per mug falls by a fifth without changing supplier at all.
Compare per metre, then per parcel. A low price per roll does not always mean a low cost per parcel. Roll length, the width you use and how much you trim off all change the result.
How many rolls should you buy in one order?
Every bubble wrap product page shows its price tiers, and the price per roll drops automatically as the quantity goes up. When you buy bubble wrap in bulk, the aim is to reach a lower tier without filling your stockroom with more than you will use in a sensible time.
Work out your monthly use first. Multiply parcels per week by metres per parcel, then by four for a rough month, and divide by the roll length. The table below assumes 0.5m of wrap per parcel on a 100m roll.
| Parcels per week | Wrap per month | 100m rolls per month | Suggested order |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | About 20m | One roll lasts about 5 months | 1 roll |
| 50 | About 100m | About 1 roll | 2 to 3 rolls |
| 100 | About 200m | About 2 rolls | 4 to 6 rolls |
| 250 | About 500m | About 5 rolls | 10 to 15 rolls |
For most businesses, two to three months of stock is a good balance. It is usually enough to reach a better price tier, and it does not tie up much cash or floor space. A shop sending ten parcels a week is better off with one roll at a time, while a warehouse sending 250 a week will want a larger bubble wrap bulk buy, placed on a regular day each month.
If you use more than one roll, count each product and width separately. A business that wraps small items in 300mm wrap and larger ones in 500mm wrap should work out the use of each width, then order both on the same order so the delivery covers them together. Our guide to packaging cost per order and stock planning uses the same method across boxes, tape and mailers.

What does delivery add to the bubble wrap price?
Delivery can add more to a small order than the wrap itself, so check it before you compare suppliers. On our site, Royal Mail Tracked 48 is free on every order with no minimum, usually 2 to 3 working days after dispatch. That means a single roll costs nothing extra to send on the standard service, and you do not need to pad an order to reach a free delivery threshold.
Orders placed by 2pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same working day. Orders after 2pm, at weekends or on bank holidays are dispatched on the next working day. If you need bubble wrap next day delivery, Express, DPD Next Day and DPD Saturday are paid options at checkout, and an order placed before the 2pm cut-off gives the parcel the best chance of arriving when you need it.
Addresses in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the Isle of Wight and the Isles of Scilly usually take 2 to 4 working days, and next-day and Saturday services do not reach them. If you are in one of these areas, order a little earlier and keep a slightly larger stock.
Can you collect bubble wrap in Manchester or get it by van?
Yes. If you are near Manchester, you have two more options. Click and collect is free from Unit 2, 50 Derby Street, Cheetham Hill, and orders are usually ready within 2 hours. We are open Monday to Friday 9:30am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm, and closed on Saturday.
We also run 3 vans that deliver within 10 miles in a straight line of M8 8HF. Van orders placed by 12pm Monday to Friday are delivered the same day. Keep the two cut-offs apart: 12pm is for same-day van delivery and 2pm is for same-day courier dispatch. Bulky orders, such as ten or more rolls of wide wrap, are easier to take by van or collect than to post. The local delivery page has the postcode checker and van details.

Should you buy from bubble wrap suppliers or direct from manufacturers?
Buying direct from a UK bubble wrap manufacturer usually suits large users who can take a pallet or more at a time and can wait for a production run. Most small businesses, online sellers and removal firms buy through bubble wrap suppliers instead, because they can order by the roll, get it from stock and mix wrap with boxes, tape and mailers on one order.
When you are deciding on bubble wrap where to buy, check these points before price alone:
- Stock on the shelf. A supplier that holds stock can dispatch the same day. One that orders in may take a week or more.
- Single roll orders. Being able to buy one roll lets you test a width before you commit to a large order.
- Clear tiered prices. You should see the price per roll at each quantity before you check out.
- Delivery with no minimum. A free service with no threshold keeps small top-up orders sensible.
- VAT invoices. Every order with us comes with a VAT invoice, which matters if you reclaim VAT.
Pack Solution is a bubble wrap UK supplier with every roll in stock at our Manchester warehouse. Businesses that reorder regularly can apply for a trade account, and for pallet quantities or a regular bulk supply you can call 0161 706 1246 or email sales@packsolution.co.uk. Our trade buying guide to wholesale packaging supplies covers how to set up a regular supply across the whole range.
Small, large or Jiffy: which roll gives the best value for your items?
The best value roll is the one that protects the item with the least wrap. Choosing the wrong bubble size or width wastes wrap on every parcel, which costs far more over a year than a small difference in roll price.
Small bubble wrap has 10mm bubbles that sit close against small and awkward shapes. Take the 300mm x 100m roll for jewellery, phone accessories and small electronics, and the 500mm x 100m roll for glassware, ceramics and ornaments. Pick the width that goes round your usual item in one or two turns, so there is little to trim off.
Large bubble wrap has 25mm bubbles and comes on 50m rolls. The thicker cushion suits lamps, vases, kitchen appliances and furniture, and you can scrunch it into gaps so nothing moves inside a large box. Per metre it covers less length than a 100m roll, so use it where the extra cushioning is needed and small bubble wrap everywhere else.
Jiffy Mono Bubbles has the same 10mm bubble and the same 300mm and 500mm widths on 100m rolls as our standard small bubble wrap. Both do the same packing job. The difference is that this one carries the Jiffy name, which some buyers ask for by brand.
For full measurements and how far each roll goes, see our guide to bubble wrap roll sizes, widths and lengths.
How should you store bulk rolls of bubble wrap?
Bulk buying only saves money if the rolls are still in good condition when you use them. Bubble wrap is light and bulky, so plan the space before a large order arrives.
- Keep rolls dry and off the floor. A shelf or pallet keeps them clear of damp and dirt.
- Store them out of direct sunlight and away from heaters. Heat can soften the film and flatten bubbles over time.
- Stand rolls on end. Rolls stored upright take less floor space and are easier to pick from.
- Do not stack heavy boxes on top. Weight pressing on a roll can burst or flatten the bubbles.
- Use the oldest roll first. Put new stock behind or under what you already have.
- Keep one roll at the bench. A roll on a simple holder next to the boxes and tape saves time on every parcel.
If you are short of space, order more often in smaller quantities and accept a slightly higher price tier.
When is honeycomb paper a better buy than bubble wrap?
Honeycomb paper is 80gsm paper that opens into a cushioning honeycomb when you stretch it, which is why it is sometimes called paper bubble wrap. Brands that are cutting down on plastic packaging use it in place of bubble wrap, and it suits bottles, glass, cosmetics and gifts.
Best for packing in paper instead of plastic
Honeycomb Paper Rolls (80gsm)
80gsm paper that opens into a cushioning honeycomb when stretched, on 250m rolls.
- 80gsm paper
- 395mm or 500mm wide
- 250m per roll
From £28.00 ex VAT (£33.60 inc VAT)
Choose sizeView productHoneycomb paper rolls are 250m long, in 395mm or 500mm widths. Use the same cost per metre method to compare it with bubble wrap: divide the roll price by 250, then measure how much one item needs. Stretch the paper all the way as you wrap so every cell opens. Take the 395mm roll for bottles, jars and cosmetics, and the 500mm roll for gifts, homeware and wider items.
Many businesses keep both. Bubble wrap goes on electronics and anything that needs a thick cushion, and honeycomb paper goes on gift orders and products where the customer expects an all paper parcel. The rest of our cushioning range is in the protective packaging collection.
